The legacy system struggled with performance issues as search operations were slow, and navigating between sections of the materia medica was cumbersome. The platform experienced frequent latency and couldn’t support multiple users efficiently, leading to a frustrating experience for its global user base.
In addition to technical limitations, the user interface lacked modern design standards and found it difficult to locate specific remedies or references quickly. The absence of advanced filtering and search capabilities made it harder to know meaningful insights from the vast medical database.

The Solution
UI/UX redesign
The Unthinkable UI/UX team redesigned the platform’s user interface to create an intuitive experience for homeopathy practitioners. The new design featured modern navigational elements that allowed users to easily access different sections of the materia medica.
The interface enabled homeopathic practitioners to search for rubrics, view detailed remedy information, access books directly within the application, and filter remedies based on specific criteria. Users could now perform advanced searches and manage patient data through an integrated Patient Management System (PMS).
Advanced Search and Performance Optimization
To improve speed and usability, the team upgraded the platform’s search system with smarter features. Users could now search by exact terms, look within specific sentences or paragraphs, and even use related words like synonyms and antonyms to find what they needed faster.
To fix delays from older search methods, Unthinkable added OFFSET keyword indexing for commonly searched terms making searches much quicker and smoother.
The new search also came with easy-to-use filters for remedies, sub-rubrics, authors, and medical categories, helping practitioners narrow down results and find accurate information with less effort.
Patient Management System Integration
Unthinkable built a robust Patient Management System tailored for homeopathy practices, centralizing patient data at one place. The platform securely captured and organized patient information like personal profiles, consultation timelines, medical records, treatment history, symptoms, and detailed prescriptions.
Practitioners could easily access past cases and share them with peers for collaborative review or academic discussion. Fostering a culture of shared learning and clinical insight across the practitioner network.
Security and Content Management
The platform used encrypted book storage to keep intellectual property safe while still allowing easy access for authorized users. Books were securely stored and automatically unlocked when opened.
Users could translate content, open several books in different tabs, and even view two books side by side with split-screen mode. The system covered over 150 medical conditions, including issues related to the brain, heart, nose, face, vertigo, and respiratory system. They could also view detailed information about salts used for treating different ailments and copy into clipboard for their use.
Data Visualization and Accessibility
Once content is copied to the clipboard, it’s automatically displayed in easy-to-read graphical formats using ReactJS modules making complex medical data more accessible. The platform also allows users to browse rubrics and salts, view detailed remedy information, and smoothly move data between different sections for better workflow and clarity.
The Impact
Following its launch, the newly upgraded digital materia medica platform has transformed how homeopathy practitioners access and apply medical knowledge. With dramatically faster search response times, users can now locate remedies and references in seconds. The redesigned interface has made the platform more engaging and accessible to both seasoned professionals and students.
To add to it, the integrated Patient Management System has simplified day-to-day operations, allowing practitioners to manage patient records, treatment histories, and consultations with ease.
With access to over 700 volumes and 1300+ references covering 150+ medical conditions, practitioners now benefit from powerful filtering and search tools that promote accuracy.
